The short version
FacePause uses your Mac's camera to detect signs of screen fatigue. All processing happens locally on your device. No video, no images, no biometric data ever leaves your Mac. We do not have access to your camera feed.
What we collect
We collect minimal data to operate the service:
- License key — stored locally in macOS Keychain. Used to validate your purchase via Lemon Squeezy.
- Anonymous usage events — through self-hosted Umami Analytics (facepause.app only). No cookies, no cross-site tracking, no personal identifiers. Data is stored on our own servers.
- Purchase data — handled entirely by Lemon Squeezy (our payment processor). We receive confirmation of a completed transaction. We do not store your payment details.
Camera and face data
FacePause requests camera access to run its fatigue detection model. This processing runs entirely on your Mac using Apple's Vision framework. No frames, images, or derived biometric data are ever transmitted to any server — ours or anyone else's.
You can revoke camera access at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera. The app will stop detecting and simply won't send nudges.
Third-party services
- Lemon Squeezy — payment processing and license key issuance. Their privacy policy applies to the purchase flow: lemonsqueezy.com/privacy
- Umami Analytics — self-hosted, cookieless, GDPR-compliant analytics on the facepause.app website only. No data is shared with third parties.
Data retention
We do not maintain a database of users. Your license key lives in your Keychain. Analytics data (anonymous, aggregated) is retained for 12 months and then deleted.
Your rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold. Since we store almost nothing, there is typically nothing to delete beyond the purchase record held by Lemon Squeezy.
